WEST HOCKEY LEAGUE WOMEN’S TRELAWNEY DIVISION ONE
Bude 3 Caradon Thirds 2
BUDE’S final home game of the season saw them produce a strong all-round performance to see off Caradon Thirds 3-2 at Budehaven Sports Centre.
The Seasiders lined up with Rachel Pomeory in goal, with Tilly Collins, Elsa Edwards, Naomi Hatcher and EV Varcoe forming a solid defensive unit. In midfield, Caroline Hockridge, EJ Biggadike, Mia Flynn and Charlotte Prime worked tirelessly to control the game, while Chloe Hall and Izzy Sobey led the line up front.
Maeva Motsch, Niamh Turner, Emily Smart and Briony Varcoe were the four substitutes, all of whom made a positive impact when called upon.
Caradon started well and took the lead through Charlotte Tamblyn from a short corner, but the team showed great determination to fight back. The equaliser came when Hall struck a powerful shot from the top of the D, with Briony Varcoe reacting quickly to tap the ball in.
The game remained tight, but the Seasiders pushed on and took the lead thanks to Varcoe’s second as she calmly finished at the far post after a lovely dribble into the D from Prime.
Caradon responded to draw level through Izzy Hedley, setting up a tense final period, but the winning goal came from a short corner where Hockridge fired the ball into the back of the net to seal a 3-2 victory.
A team spokesperson said: “It was a fantastic team effort and a great way to round off our home fixtures this season, and we now look ahead to our final match away at St Austell on April 11.”
