Truro 6 Bude 0

BUDE made the trip to league leaders Truro knowing it was going to be a tough game as they only had 10 players available.

Bude shuffled their players around. Evie Varcoe came into left back, Caroline Hockridge moved from midfield into right back and Tilly Collins went out on the left midfield.

Truro dominated from the start, making use of the extra space as they passed the ball around creating overloads through midfield.

Bude stuck to their tasks making it difficult for Truro to get a complete hold on the game, with midfield players EJ Biggerdike, Izzy Sobey and Katie Jackson disrupting their play with well won tackles.

Naomi Hatcher, Evie Varcoe and Caroline Hockridge had a lot to do making crucial interceptions to deny the home side.

Bude were able to get the ball out wide to Collins who looked to find Maeva Motsch up front to take the pressure off the defence. Supported by Mia Flynn, they worked the ball into Truro’s D and were awarded a short corner. Hatcher pushed the ball out to Hockridge whose shot fizzed past the post.

As Bude had committed players up for the corner, Truro were able to take advantage driving into the away side’s half again. EJ, Varcoe and Jackson did a great job of spoiling their plays and when they did get into the D, Jo Timmins was on hand to deny them.

Truro had lots of substitutes and were able to change their players in the warm conditions. The breakthrough came from a short corner. Timmins saved the initial shot but had no chance with the rebound which was lifted into the net.

Looking to put Truro on the back foot, Flynn and EJ worked the ball through the midfield, assisted by Sobey, and took the ball into the D around a defender but the shot was saved and cleared by the home defence.

With half time looming, Truro stepped up their game, passing the ball from left to right and found space to drive into the D and score their second.

Bude started the second half with the same determination, getting the ball up to Motsch for her to keep hold of it and make a run into Truro’s half. She passed the ball to Sobey who then passed it onto Flynn and her run led to another short corner for Bude, but Truro thwarted the away side’s shots on goal.

Truro played the ball down their right and them having the extra player was starting to make the difference. With Bude working hard all round the pitch, it was inevitable that Truro’s dominance saw them score their third.

Varcoe, Hatcher, Hockridge and Timmins were making tackles and saves, while EJ, Sobey, Collins, Flynn and Jackson were also helping to keep Truro at bay. Bude were tiring in the heat and having a player less and no fresh legs, they conceded two quick goals.

The visitors didn't give up and every player worked hard for each other. They kept their heads up still looking to get a goal back, but it wasn't to be.

With Truro creating numerous chances, it wasn't long before the hosts scored their sixth of the game.

Bude will host Caradon this Saturday.
