Counties Two Cornwall
Bodmin 0 Bude 71
STUNG by the previous week's late loss at the hands of fellow high flyers Helston, Bude showed their ruthless streak as they demolished basement club Bodmin with an 11 try blitz at Clifden Park on Saturday.
That bonus point victory saw the Seasiders leapfrog Falmouth into third place in the league table, but some distance behind leaders Camborne Seconds and second placed Helston, albeit with a game in hand as they play catch-up following the weeks of bad weather and sodden pitches during the post Christmas period.
The visitors raced out of the blocks with a rush of early tries, led by No. 8 Joe Wilson who claimed a hat trick of scores in the first quarter.
Further scores from the ever lively scrum half Ollie Rowland, inside centre Olly Denford and full back Will Pharo, together with a fourth try from Wilson increased the scoreline further.
In addition to the tries were four successful conversions from fly half Brad Thomas, helping Bude to take a 43-0 lead going into the break.
With the game all but over as a contest, coach Sam Parker took the opportunity at the interval to give the visitors' replacements bench a good run out.
This included a first team debut for Freddie Allan in the second row as skipper Will Hockridge took a well earned break, along with further game time for Colts' captain Adam Lovejoy on the wing.
Bodmin continued to defend bravely, but they were no match for their North Cornwall rivals and with a dominant scrum and some excellent back play, Bude continued to rack up the points in the second half.
A fifth try from Wilson, along with a single score from outside centre, Edy Hilliam-Cooke, now operating in the back row, increased the lead further.
A brace by Lovejoy, along with two further conversions by Thomas and a couple of successful kicks from Rowland, made the scoreline 71-0 in the Seasiders favour at the final whistle.
This Saturday, Bude play host to fifth placed Perranporth, who beat Newquay Hornets 54-10 at the weekend, in a Counties Two Tribute Ale Cornwall league match, kick off time 3pm.
The second team, who sit fifth in the table, are due to visit Penryn Seconds in the Counties Three Tribute Ale Cornwall League Cup.
Meanwhile, Bude Colts are away to Launceston Colts in the Cornwall Colts Cup Shield competition.
On Sunday, Bude Ladies, who lost to Paignton at the weekend, will be playing away at Cullompton Ladies Seconds in a Women's NC Two South West (West) league game.
