ECB CORNWALL PREMIER LEAGUE (SATURDAY)

Werrington 194 (42.4), Helston 192-7 (50).

SRI Lankan Thulina Dilshan continued his scintillating form as Werrington made it three wins in four games with a two-run success at high-flying Helston.

Werrington were sent in and Dilshan and Mark Gribble aside, struggled throughout as the home side’s bowlers gave little away.

Sam Hockin was adjudged to have edged Ryan Tonkin behind, before Adam Hodgson and John Moon departed cheaply to Australian overseas fast bowler Jayden Mitchell (22-3).

But in Dilshan they have the form batsman in the division, and alongside Gribble who was back after missing the previous game against Grampound Road due to a hand injury, they recovered with Gribble getting to 32 before falling lbw to leg-spinner Harry Saunders (3-48) with the score at 120.

Werrington then struggled, particularly against Somerset all-rounder Lewis Goldsworthy who went on to take 4-24 from his 8.4 overs.

But Dilshan was on another planet, striking 15 fours and a six before picking out deep square-leg to make it 174-6.

Two wickets fell at 174 before last man Darren Webber made nine to close in on 200.

Werrington struck twice early on as Dan Barnard had Billy Taylor caught at mid-wicket, before Goldsworthy edged Hockin to Moon in the slips.

Karl Leathley and Steve Jenkin (42) took the score to 67 before Hodgson (2-40) struck twice in succession (73-4).

Werrington never let the Blues settle with Webber sending down 10 overs for just 29.

The Blues slipped to 116-5 but were seemingly cruising to victory through Mark Jenkin (42) and Sunny Osmont (47).

Yet Werrington refused to buckle, meaning three were needed to win off the final ball.

Dilshan (3-43) delivered and Osmont went big, only to get a top edge to Nick Lawson as Werrington earned yet another thrilling victory ahead of Saturday's trip to Truro.
