BOND TIMBER CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO EAST
Holsworthy v Werrington Seconds
HOLSWORTHY produced a fine comeback to earn a first win of the season at home to Werrington Seconds.
The visitors were all over the Trees early on with four wickets, but the home side fought back via skipper Ryan Walter (35) and Sam Stacey (47), before a late flurry from the tail gave them a chance in a total of 193-9.
Werrington opener Paul Miller batted nearly to the end for his 45, but Holsworthy restricted the village outfit to 160-9.
Werrington skipper Jason Seldon chose to field and saw his decision vindicated as Aiden Gerry and Jack Greening fell for ducks to Sam Smeeth (2-29) and Darren Webber (2-28) respectively, with the latter also soon having Brendan Harris caught and bowled for six.
Billy Uglow (2-33) nipped out Rory Piper for 42-4, but a 58-run stand between Walter and Stacey, the latter who struck seven fours in his 47 before falling lbw to Seldon (1-15 off 7), got them back in it.
That soon became 147-8 with Walter bowled and the dangerous Bilal Darbar out for 15, but the last two wickets dug in to reach 193-8 with Guy Beagley (18) and Nick Ward (12) both reaching double figures. Seamer Dan Jenkin claimed 3-42.
Darbar then snicked off Ed Walters and Ben Jenkin for nought and four respectively as he and Rob Mitchell (1-26) kept the pressure on.
Tom Lyle backed up his 72 the week before with 39, but with runs hard to come by, Holsworthy were right in it.
Once Lyle went, of the rest, only Zander Zambuni with 23 and Seldon with 10 reached double figures as they just mustered a fourth batting point.
Darber was the star with 3-29, while spinners Graham Wild (1-24) and Aiden Gerry (1-31) gave away little.
Saturday sees Werrington host in-form Tintagel, while Holsworthy visit champions St Blazey.
