ELEVEN days worth of roadworks are set to cause traffic chaos in Launceston, with multiple roads closed and a diversion spanning nearly 50 miles.

Between August 17 and August 28, a series of roadworks are set to get underway across a number of routes in the town, including the Dutson Road, St Stephen’s Hill, West Bridge Road, and Roydon Road.

Cornwall Council has approved the multi-day closures to allow for resurfacing of the carriageway. As well as the closure, there are also notices preventing any stopping within these zones - something which could result in a fine.

The notice, detailed by Vicky Fraser, service director for environment and connectivity, explains: “Notice is further given that Cornwall Council intends to make the above Order in exercise of its powers under Section 14(1) of the RTRA 1984 to temporarily impose a stopping prohibition the effect of which will be that no person shall cause or permit any motor vehicle to stop as specified on the undermentioned length of road in Launceston. Where any vehicle is found to be in contravention of the Order it may receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) and may be removed from site.”

The work is set to take place between 7pm and 6am during the designated period. As a result, the council has implemented a number of diversions, the first will see those required to follow the route travel through the town along the A388 before joining the A30, travelling towards Okehampton and joining the A3079 to Dunsland Cross, next motorists will be taken towards Holsworthy before finally heading south along the A388 - totalling a massive 47 miles and adding more than an hour to journey times.

Alongside this, there will also be a number of small diversions throughout the town, rerouting drivers around the evening works.
