A CORNISH harbour town has topped a new house price list of the UK’s top ten fastest rising picture postcard villages and towns.
Property values in Fowey have bucked the overall downturn to shoot up by 67 per cent in the last ten years, according to new figures by property management software provider Alto.
Values in the town have soared over the last decade, with average prices rising from £350,000 in 2016 to £585,000.
Alto’s shortlist featured picturesque towns and villages which have significantly out-performed the market over the last ten years to deliver strong returns for buyers and landlords.
Fowey, which was the only Cornish town to make the top ten, is renowned for its Georgian townhouses, quayside cottages and stunning waterfront where buildings are stacked in tiers up the rising hillside.
The historic port has enjoyed recent national exposure thanks to BBC hit series Beyond Paradise, which has also been filmed in Looe and Saltash.
Alto CEO Riccardo Iannucci-Dawson said that picture postcard locations have been hit by property downturn too, but that they maintain and grow value over the long-term due to their enduring appeal.
He said: “Even in a depressed property market you will find bubbles which out perform other areas because they are gorgeous places to live. Fowey is one such place, along with all the others in the top ten.”
