330 Lambs, 149 Draft Ewes and Rams
Smaller entry due to the dry weather with again a lot of lean lambs on offer which were harder to place.
The good meat lambs sold to a premium, top being 328ppk from Dereck Challacombe of Thelbridge. 2 vendors at 324ppk Rodney Huxtable of Bickleton 44.2kgs at £143 and Rod Evely from Woolaton Farm Petersmarland 46kgs £149. Top per head was £157 from A Boundy of Woolsery.
Draft Ewes
A flying trade from start to finish and a lot more could have been sold. Charolais from Tom Mawtus of Clawton topped the day at £181, Texel x to £179 from S Nicholls of Chilsworthy and Suffolk x ewes to £171 from the Dilling family of Highampton. Mules to £155 and grazing ewes saw several pens at £115 to £130.
204 Store Lambs
A very fast trade for all store lambs, top being £128 with 2 other vendors at £120 J&L Miller of Hatherleigh and Kev Heard of Bradworthy.
238 Breeding Ewes
A very strong trade with Suffolk x 2T to £235 for 2 pens from Mike Hill of Bideford who also realised £220 for his Mule 2T. The davey family of Bratton Clovelly had their usual smart run of Mule ewe lambs which topped at £155.
Rams
A very strong trade and a total clearance top on the day was £545 for a Charolais shearling from Hosegood of West Newton. A Beltex 2T from S Jordan from The nook realsied £300.
472 Calves and Weaned Calves
Another super entry of Calves sold to an excellent trade from start to finish.
Top of the day was £780 for a young British Blue bull from Messrs O Petherick & Son of Bude with other Blues to £760 x 2 for Mr MB Davey of Bideford, £700 & £650 for Geraint & Louise Jones of Crediton, £685 & £655 for Messrs RK & CL Sainsbury Ltd of Launceston, £660 for Michael Hopper of Whitstone, £650 x 3for Steve Beer of Bideford and £645 & £640 for Stuart & Michelle Ley of Sutcombe.
Charolais bulls a cracking trade with the best to £775 & £630 for Messrs CW & AL Wickett of Merton, £730 for Steve Beer, £640 for Messrs PM & MH Baker & Son of Tavistock and £590 & £570 for Wrangworthy Dairy of Bradworthy.
Inra Bulls to £610 for Messrs SG & S Old of St Ervan. Limousin bulls to £670 for Messrs RG, LA & SR Wearing of Tavistock with others to £555 for Nick Baker of Lewdown.
Native bulls saw Aberdeen Angus bulls to £530 & £490 for Stuart & Michelle Ley with others to £480 for Nick & Kate Bowden of Highampton and £465 for Messrs SNA & ME Furse of Ashwater.
Hereford bulls to £515 for Geraint & Lousie Jones with others to £500 for RWH Dilling of Highampton & £470 for Messrs RK & CL Sainsbury Ltd.
Heifer calves topped at £715 x 2 & £580 for cracking British Blue heifers from Messrs O Petherick & Son with others to £570, £565 x 2 & £555 x 2 for Stuart & Michelle Ley, £555 for Messrs A & D Heyward of Okehampton and £550 x 4 for Steve Beer.
Charolais heifers topped at £565 for Messrs CW & AL Wickett with others to £550 for Lower Newham Partnership of Camelford and £520 & £460 for Mr AT Bayly of Warbstow. Limousin Heifers to £435 for Nick Baker.
Native heifers saw Aberdeen Angus heifers to £375 & £345 for Stuart & Michelle Ley and £370 for Messrs TP & JH Isaac of Holsworthy. Hereford heifers to £310 for Messrs RK & CL Sainsbury Ltd.
Dairy Bulls saw Holsteins to £162 & £160 for Messrs RK & CL Sainsbury Ltd with others to £148 for Messrs RA, JF & RH Poole of Milton Dameral and £140 for Messrs Parnell & Kent of Wadebridge. Fleckvieh Bulls to £230 for Messrs RJ & RD Parkhouse of Barnstaple.
33 Stirks and Weaned Calves
A small number of Stirks sold to an excellent trade topping at £845 x 2 for two 7 month old British Blue steers from Collaton Farm Partnership of Bude who sold others to £810.
5 month old Hereford bulls sold well to £800 for David Headon of North Tawton and 6 month old Devon Steers sold to £730 for T Drew of Bude.
Heifers sold to £810 x 2 for British Blue heifers from Collaton Farm Partnership who sold others at £725 x 2. Simmental x heifers to £700 for T Drew and Welsh Blck Heifers to £690 for Collaton Farm Partnership.
310 Store Cattle
Another good entry this week saw a good trade.
The stronger, fleshed cattle in demand but in short supply. Top today was £2090 for a 16mth Limousin from Messrs JG & S Endacott, Halwill. Another large framed Limousin from M Lucas & Partners, Bridgerule £2080.
British Blue’s to £2080 for a steer from Messrs G Daniel & Son, North Tamerton who sold others £1970(3) & £1960(2) and other wintering BB’s from Mr SW Graham, Bridgerule £1870(2).
A cracking run of well fed cattle from Messrs CW & AL Wickett, Merton who topped at £1970 for a 15mth Charolais who sold Herefords at £1800(6) and Longhorns to £1790(6) 21mths.
Top price today was £2190 for a Simmental heifer from Messrs ST Beer, Monkleigh. A good run of heifers from Messrs PF & PA Bromell, Buckland Brewer saw Charoalis 18mth £1910, Simmentals 18mths £1910 and younger 16mth Charolais £1870.
More stronger store cattle required. Best of the Friesians this week topped at £1800 for 2 25mth steers from Mr C Wickett, Merton whilst Holstein heifers to £1830 for 4 from Mr ST Beer, Monkleigh.
Younger Stores
Top today was £1460 for 7 well fed 12mth Limousins from Mr PRT Balsdon, Beaworthy who sold 7 12 mth British Blue’s at £1450.
Other British Blue’s from Messrs DI & ML Wotton to £1330 and 13mth Charolais to £1270. Fleckvieh steers 12-13mths from Mr C Mcwhirter £1420(5) who sold Aberdeen Angus’s to £1260. Younger 7mth continental steers and heifers £750-£900.
