Much larger entry and also faster trade for all weights and still more could have been sold, overall average being 328.4ppk.

Top per kilo on the day was 343ppk for a pen of 40.4kgs at £138 from Mr JF Curtis of Beaworthy followed by 340ppk for 39kgs at £132.50 from C Drummond of Inwardleigh.

Geoff May of Astral House, Instow had a good run of lambs which topped at 339ppk for 42kgs at £142.50. Several pens at £154 to a top of £154.50 from J&R Hookway of Town Tennant, St Giles.

Draft Ewes

A flying trade for all on offer and the overall average of £133.

Top on the day was £175 for Texel x from Mark Dymond of Hollick, Yarnscombe and Suffolk x ewes to £165 from 2 vendors and Charollais x to £159 from R Breyly of Jacobstow. Mules to £158.

137 Store Lambs

All the store lambs very much sought after selling to a top of £129 from J Smale of Yarnscombe.

488 Calves and Weaned Calves

An exceptional entry of calves for the time of year and another buoyant trade for the best and mediums, but perhaps some of those smaller types would have seen less interest this week.

The calf trade is 48 per cent per head up today compared to the same week in 2024 with lots of the calves forward today being very young with vendors selling out before Christmas.

Weaned Calves

A good run of weaned calves this week which reached £700 for a pair of well put together Blues heifers in from Burney Worth down from Ilfracombe.

Milk Calves

Another remarkable trade with some eye watering returns achieved, with top prices of £840 for Charolais bulls from FW Dymond & Son, Shebbear, who sold more to £820 (x2), £805 (x2), £800 and £790 a credit to them for such great calves.

British Blue bulls also topped at £840 again for FW Dymond & Sons again, more to £735 (x2) for O Petherick & Son, Kilkhampton, who also sold more to £710 and £695.

Limousin bulls to £765 again for FW Dymond & Son, £755 (x4), £725 for PH Collins Partnership, Holsworthy and £695 for NC & RM Skinner, Halwill. Aberdeen Angus bulls to £570, £540, £510 for FK M & SK Kendall, Lanviet, and £502 for AW Pomeroy & Son, Holsworthy.

Simmental bulls to £550 and £530 for FK M & SK Kendall again. Hereford bulls to £498 and £460 for MW & AC Vanstone, Chilsworthy.

Charolais topping the heifer section at £740, £720 for FW Dymond & Sons. Limousin heifers to £720 again for FW Dymond & Sons and £590 (x4) for PH Collins Partnership again.

British Blue heifers to £660 for FW Dymond & Sons, £610 for DR & LJ Johns, Bodmin, £605 for FK M & SK Kendall again. Aberdeen Angus heifers to £500, £460 for FK M & SK Kendall again.

Dairy Sired Bulls

26 Friesian bulls average £165 per head to a top of £390 for a strong sort in from JR & A Down of Whiddon Down.

83 Store Cattle

A small entry with many vendors now booking for January.

The stronger meat cattle in demand topping at £2110 for 3 Simmental x South Devon steers from Mr RG Allin of Winkleigh whose Simmental heifers topped the day at £1990.

4 good feeding Limousin steers from Messrs HR Daniel & Son of Torrington sold well at £2000 and 21mth Limousin heifers from the same farm to £1680.

Best of the natives to £1600 for 4 19mth Aberdeen Angus steers from Messrs HJ SA & J Wonnacott of Woolsery and Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1680 for 3 at 25mth from RG Allin of Winkleigh.

Younger 12mth Herefords from Mr N Aris of Torrington saw 13mth steers race away to £1490, Hereford heifers from the same stable at £1380.

Several Holsteins this week topped at £1950 for 2 at 25mth again from Messrs HR Daniel & Son, others from Mr J Chammings of Bideford to £1660(2) and Friesian heifers to £1490 for 2 at 24mth from Mr TRE Moore of Tideford. Plainer hard cattle slightly harder trade.

Breeding Stock

A 2014 born Aberdeen Angus cow with her British Blue calf realised £2000 from MR S Goodenough of Launceston.

111 Dairy Cattle

The dairy sale saw an easier trade for all types forward.

Topping the sale at £2550 was a 1st calving heifer ‘Tresowes Platt Eleanor 2’ yielding 35Kgs on behalf of Messrs M & J Rowe of Helston who sold other fresh heifers to £2300.

Ranches Ltd of Bridestowe sold a smart consignment of fresh calvers topping at £2500 for a fresh heifer ‘Janeck Rager Grey’ yielding 42Kgs with ‘Janeck Nader Baby 2’ realising £2300 from the same vendors.

Cows topped at £2500 for a 2nd calving cow yielding 40Kgs on behalf of M & C Powell, Tiverton.

Messrs M & J Rowe sold a 3rd calving cow ‘Tresowes Crosby Isobel 3 GP82’ at £2400 with Ranches Ltd realising £2400 for a 2nd calving cow ‘Janeck Persistent Quickstep VG85’.

Mr and Mrs DJ Heller of Truro sold a 2nd calver ‘Aclandfarm Platt Carole’ at £2350 and Mr John G George & Family sold a 3rd calver ‘Cabbacott Oneida Jewel’ at £2280.

British Friesians saw a top of £2150 for a 2nd calver ‘Crackington Jane 171’ on behalf of R & C Ward of Bude with Messrs DP & CE Martin continuing their dispersal realising £2000 for a 3rd calving British Friesian cow.

The Christophers Family of Hayle sold a smart pedigree Ayrshire heifer ‘Trereose Fantasy Babycham’ to £2050.

In calf heifers topped at £2150 for a ‘Morchard’ bred heifer due March on behalf of Moreton Pound Farm Ltd of Bude.

The same vendor also sold a ‘Leswidden’ bred heifer due March to £1600.
