AN ALTERNATIVE start line was used for the AM sailboat race, thanks to an easterly wind.

It was Nicky Buckett (Laser) who was first round Dam Red, with Jane Anderson and Stuart Mealing both in hot pursuit.

Nicky and Jane were neck and neck approaching the second lap, with the former just making better use of the tricky gusts of wind.

Jane Chadney (Lader Radial) had also overtaken partner Stuart to grab third place, treading her way carefully through the mooring buoys as the wind changed direction.

John Weller also did well in his Laser, but crossed the wrong side of the line and had to correct his error.
