SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST

Bude Town 2 Camelford 1

TORNADO Bello’s first half brace helped Bude Town see off North Cornwall rivals Camelford at Broadclose Park on Saturday.

The well-travelled frontman gave the Seasiders a seventh minute lead before doubling the advantage 10 minutes later.

Bude’s Jake Woodland was shown a straight red for strong challenge on Jacob Ham seven minutes before the break, and although the Camels dominated the second half, they could only muster a response through centre-half Tom Crowe.

The hosts were without the likes of James Wheeler, Harry Hopcroft and Archie Perrott which forced an ultra-attacking side picked by boss Steve Hackett, while the Camels were missing star man Ryan Downing and skipper Tom Cowling. Striker Mark Gusterson was named on the bench.

In front of a healthy crowd of 148, it was the fifth-placed Camels that started the brighter as inside a minute, the recalled Joseph Parr cut in off the left and forced a good save out of Ty Rowe at his near-post.

But with Bude’s first real attack they were in front.

Seventeen-year-old winger Piran Friend picked the ball up just outside of the area and danced around a couple of tackles, only to be taken out by Crowe. Bello sent Cory Harvey the wrong way from the spot.

Rowe had to be alert to deny the dangerous Liam Higgins who was playing up front in the absence of Downing and Gusterson, but Bello doubled the lead when he struck from close-range following a corner.

It was nearly 3-0 on the half-hour when Billy Hopcroft’s 25-yard half-volley sailed millimetres wide of the far post, before the visitors had a big shout for a penalty when centre-half Dan Hocking went down under a challenge from Rowe as he went for a loose ball.

On 38 minutes the hosts saw Woodland sent-off for a poor tackle after going through Ham, before the hosts went close to a third before the break when Bello turned and shot, only for it to be saved by Harvey.

With a man less, the Seasiders naturally had to sit in with Mariko moving to centre-half, but despite the Camels having plenty of possession, they rarely troubled Rowe.

Bude had a couple of moments on the counter through Hopcroft and Swatton, before Camelford made it 2-1 when Crowe struck from six yards following a short corner. Home appeals for offside fell on deaf ears.

Camelford were also reduced to 10 men shortly as Ham was shown a second yellow cards after pulling back Hopcroft in midfield, but they still formed one more good chance. However, Kenley Dyson couldn’t make a clean connection with his strike from eight yards.

Both sides are in action this Saturday as Bude welcome holders Penzance in the last 16 of the Walter C Parson League Cup, while the Camels host Millbrook in the league.
