LAUNCESTON Tennis Club chairman Barry Frayn recently welcomed players and their families to the annual general meeting and presentation held at Launceston Golf Club.

Joint secretary Nicole Warring reported on a successful season with club tournaments enjoyed by all, friendly matches being played, league matches competed in and club sessions well-attended. Thanks were expressed to all club members who make the club and the tennis such a friendly and welcoming experience.

Officers elected were for the new season were: Chairman – Barry Frayn; Treasurer – Adam Baker; Secretary – from July Suzanne Cole, until then Tonia Jones and Nicole Warring; Junior Rep – Owen Worth; Captains – Adam Baker, Marc Perry and Tim Hambly and Lucy Colville; Welfare Officer – Jenny Worth; Social Secretary – Tracey Manning, plus Henry Cornish and Sally Halls.

President Tim Hambly presented the trophies to club champions and runners-up which were: Men’s Singles: Winner – Henry Cornish; Runner-up – Sam Tucker; Ladies’ Singles: Winner – Charlotte Halls; Runner-up – Hayley Frayn; Junior Boys: Winner – Isaac Baron; Runner-up – Oscar Dziedzic; Junior Girls: Winner – Mary Shanks; Runner-up – Emily Strawbridge; Men’s Doubles: Winners – Henry and Owen Worth; Runners-up – Graeme Duck and Graham Worth; Ladies Doubles: Winners – Lucy and Tracey Manning; Runners-up – Charlotte and Suzanne Cole; Mixed Doubles: Winners – Henry Cornish and Tracey Manning; Runners-up – Richard Rodda and Jenny Worth; Charlie Bears: Senior winners – Oscar and Tomaz Dziedzic; Junior winners – Hamish and Chris Morshead.

The Spring Challenge was completed at the beginning of the month over five dry Wednesday evenings!

The six teams played each other in doubles and singles, and with a mixture of juniors and adults the result was in doubt until the last evening.

The winners with 17 points were Graham and Owen Worth, while the joint runners-up with 15 points were Mary Shanks and Isaac Baron and the team of Lucy Colville, Adam Baker, Richard Marshall and Luca Jefferies.

Winter League matches have also finished with the A team finishing third in Premier East and the B team fifth in Division One East.
