ROB Waterhouse and Adrian Riddock were the winners of the recent Cecil Heard Trophy at Bude Tennis Club, writes tournament organiser Val Leafe.
Held on the evening on Monday, September 7, organisers decide to continue with the format from last year of 'speed tennis' as everyone had said how much they had enjoyed it.
The weather forecast was looking dodgy, but members decided to be brave and chance their luck as 22 members played six rounds of 10-minute tie-break doubles trying to get as many points in as possible, while there was a lot of running around during points, changing ends and getting to the board to record scores.
At the end of the tournament, and just as it had started to rain, the scores were added up and the winners announced with Waterhouse (88) and Riddock (85) emerging victorious.
A huge thank you to Emma Hope who provided all the resources, cakes and crisps and to Finley and Olive who helped with the timing and blowing the hooter.
In recent weeks, the final of the Spring Mixed Doubles tournament was played with Lorraine Mcilwham and Adrian Riddock getting the better of Rose Sullivan and John Brooks.
The next tournament will be the Autumn Hurlingham which is set for Sunday, October 18 (4pm), while the upcoming social event on the calendar is a quiz night at Bude Golf Club on Thursday 15 October (7pm). Non members are very welcome.
