WEEK four of league action in the North Cornwall Table Tennis League took place last week as Division One champions unbeaten North Hill A kept up their near-perfect start.

They saw off club rivals North Hill B 9-1 on Thursday evening with only Peter Frier’s success over Shirley Luckhurst in a deciding end stopping the rot as Mike Briggs and Iain Oxenham enjoyed trebles.

Bridgerule A made it three wins on the spin in the same division with an emphatic 10-0 success at Otterham A on Tuesday night as Mark Rowe, Helen Johns and Peter Freeburn proved too strong with none of the matches going to a decider.

Elsewhere, Budehaven B also secured a whitewash success at North Hill C with Jeremy Skelton, Nathan Jukes and Louis Konowalik unbeaten all evening.

The clash between Stratton A and unbeaten Budehaven A was postponed.

All three matches in Division Two were played with leaders Budehaven C winning 9-1 at Otterham C.

Robin Evans defeated Ezra Jukes in four ends to get the hosts off to a good start, but the visitors then reeled off the rest including trebles for Julia Cornish and Dave Salisbury.

Otterham B cruised to a comfortable 8-2 success at Altarnun B.

The visitors won the first six matches of the night, dropping just one end in the process, before Geoff Hale and Brian Holsey defeated Judith Cook and Ross Wilmshurst in the doubles to get themselves on the board.

Wilmshurst and James Ellis soon secured trebles, but Hale earned the Nuns a second point as he fought back from two sets to one down to beat Cook.

The tightest contest in the division was across the hall as Altarnun A and Bridgerule B shared a 5-5 draw.

Paul Burden was the star of the show with an unbeaten evening for the hosts, which was added to by David Jones’ brace.

Bridgerule’s points came via Barry Stearman (2), Shaun Collins, Alan Quilter and in the doubles.

Division Three North saw whitewash victories for Budehaven D and E over their G and F teams respectively, while in the South division, North Hill E saw off Pensilva A 4-1 and Pensilva C got the better of their C team, 5-0.
