North Cornwall Table Tennis League latest round-up

THE two sides expected to battle it out for the Division One title both secured whitewash victories on Thursday night.

Champions North Hill A saw off Budehaven B 10-0, which was the same scoreline that Budehaven A defeated North Hill B.

For North Hill A, Shirley Luckhurst had to be at her dogged best to see off Nathan Jukes in a decider, while Iain Oxenham came through a fifth set with Jeremy Skelton.

Across the hall, the Budehaven trio of Richard Ryan, Alistair Prades and David Sillifant all got the job done.

Elsewhere in the division, Otterham A edged past their Stratton counterparts 6-4, helped by a treble from Ross Paynter and the doubles.

For Stratton, Anthony Ward and Ian Westaway both won twice, but victories for Keiron Chatterjea and Olly Edwards over Douglas Galley worked in Otterham’s favour.

In Division Two, just one match went ahead as Budehaven C won 9-1 at Bridgerule B on Friday night.

Dave Salisbury kept up his unbeaten start and was joined by newcomer Julia Cornish who also won three.

The only home point came via Barry Stearman who defeated Ezra Jukes in a deciding set, although Alan Quilter went close having lost to Cornish and Jukes in the fifth.

Three games went ahead in Division Three North, including two whitewash victories.

Christopher Hodge and Barry Marsh proved too strong as Stratton B saw off Budehaven D 5-0, while Budehaven E’s Paul Turner and Terry Lown’s experience proved too much for their G team counterparts.

The other clash saw another Budehaven inter-club battle as Jude Lewis’ double helped the H side to victory over the F’s who saw Kory Carter defeat Jack O’Neil for their point.

In Division Three South, North Hill E saw off their D team counterparts 4-1 with Simon Harrison unbeaten in the singles before teaming up with Steve Beldon in the doubles.

Beldon had earlier been beaten by Jake Duffy.

Pensilva A and their B team battled it out at Darite Village Hall with the A side running out 4-1 winners.

Paul Catley got the better of both Anne Gibson and Michael Stansbury, although Gibson did edge a five-setter with Lisa Claydon.

Graham Hole joined Catley for the doubles.
