MEMBERS of Launceston Road Runners have been involved in some remarkable long-distance events in recent weeks.

The Hope Trail Festival at Newnham Park in Plymouth is held over three timed endurance races – 12 hours, 24 hours and finally 36 hours from Friday, July 11 to Sunday, July 13.

Joe Thomson started the 36-hour race at 9pm on July 11 and completed 100 miles over 20 five-mile laps in 25:22:53.

Vikki Savage and Angela Brinicombe started the 12-hour event at 9am on the Saturday.

Angela managed eight laps in 13:06:00, while Vikki got around seven times in 13:06:03.

Jaine Hynes undertook the Race to the Stones, a 100km event along the Ridgeway from Lewknor, near Thame in Oxfordshire to Avebury in Wiltshire over the weekend of July 12 and 13. This route takes in the ancient route through villages and magnificent scenery.

Jaine completed the event in 14:47:44, took in 112,445 steps and was first in the 60+ ladies age category. She also raised £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Nick Smith also took on his first 100km challenge on Saturday, July 5, The Serpent Trail Race in the South Downs National Park.

He ran through breathtaking countryside and ancient woodlands and crossed the line in 14 hours and 47 minutes!

At the end of June, Jackie Chapman ran the 10K race of the Mont Blanc Marathon in France at the end of June.

Held in 32-degree heat and halfway up a mountain, she was done in 1:41:13.

The seventh race of the Cornish Multi-Terrain Race Series – the Mag 7 – was held by Tamar Trotters on Sunday, July 6.

This ever-popular seven-mile race around the country lanes of Saltash takes in great views of the Tamar and Lynher estuaries.
