The centre scored twice along with efforts from Joe Wilson and a penalty try as the home side took advantage of the wind behind their backs to race into a 26-0 lead before the break against the newly-promoted side.
The visitors did respond after the break but a couple of late scores from player/coach Angus Hodges ensured a good afternoon’s work.
First-team coach, Mark Kendrick was delighted to respond to last Saturday’s 36-5 defeat at Withycombe.
Kendrick said:?“”It was a much-improved performance from the boys and I was glad to get the win.
“Admittedly in the first-half we had an extremely strong wind behind us where we could kick the ball from almost one length of the field to the other, and they were unlucky with the penalty try they conceded as I thoguht it was a harsh decision, but we played quite well.
“It was a typical Bude home performance in that we utilised our forwards dominance really well and waited and waited until there was some space for an overlap to score.
“Saying that I thought Ed?Hilliam-Cooke was outstanding. He made some lovely runs from the centre but was also very good in the second-half with his tackling when Hayle had a 15 to 20 minute spell of dominance.
“However, the players then seemed to realise that they couldn’t hurt us too much and then Angus went and scored a couple of tries.”
This weekend Bude make the trip to East Devon to take on Honiton who ran in 64 points at Wessex last Saturday.
Kendrick has been to Honiton before and expects it to be an incredibly tough game, adding:?“Honiton is always an extremely tough place to go. It’s a very slopey pitch and they play on it really well. We haven’t had alot of success there but we’ll go there and try and get a result.
“Saying that, every away game in this league is tough. Most teams tend to win at home as players don’t always travel.
“But we’re confident that if we play as we can, we’ll go close to winning the game.”
