LEADERS Camborne face their biggest game of the season so far tomorrow when they welcome nearest challengers Luctonians to the Recreation Ground (2pm).

The top-of-the-table clash in National League Two West is expected to draw close to a four-figure crowd with the Herefordshire visitors just three points behind the Cherry and Whites with 14 games remaining.

Camborne saw their lead reduced by a point last Saturday despite winning at Cinderford, but will start the game as favourites, particularly helped by a vocal Cornish crowd.

From last Saturday there are some absentees as lock Ben Watson and wing Harry Larkins are unavailable.

Head coach Tom Kessell is able to welcome back the influential AJ Hussell to partner Adam Hughes in the second-row, while Larkins’ place goes to Belgium international Robin Wedlake.

Former Cornish pirates prop Jack Andrew is also available and comes on to the bench, while George Edson is rewarded for some good form in the seconds with a spot amongst the replacements which also include player/coach Chris Fuca, Sam Rodman and Will Tanswell.

Looking ahead to the game, Kessell said: “Tomorrow should be a fantastic game, but we’ve got to remember we’re not even at halfway yet, but if we can earn a bit of a buffer, it’d be rather nice.

“But there’s still a long way to go regardless of what happens.”

As for the game itself, Kessell continued: “Traditionally they’re a very strong, physical side who pride themselves on that, so it’s up to us to match it.

“Another area we need to control is our penalty count as if we do that they’ll kick it into the corners and cause us problems.

“We’ve got to be whiter than white and if we can do that it’ll allow us to impact the game how we want to play.

“If we are clinical and play the kind of game we want to, then we’ll win a lot more rugby matches than we lose.”

Elsewhere around the club, the unbeaten seconds visit West Cornwall rivals Helston in a crunch clash in the Counties Two Cornwall title race, while the ladies are also in action this weekend.

The unbeaten Cherry and Whites welcome table-toppers Kingsbridge on Sunday (2pm) in a match which will go a long way to deciding who gets promoted from Women’s NC3 South West (West).
