THIRTEEN members of Launceston Road Runners competed in the Cornish Marathon on Sunday, November 19.

The event is the only road marathon in Cornwall and one of the toughest marathons in the UK, but this still didn’t deter the Launceston Road Runners from turning out in force to run the 26 miles.

The race, which is organised by the East Cornwall Harriers, starts in Pensilva and winds it way past King Donierts Stone, Colliford Lake and Dozmary Pool to the highest point of the race at Jamaica Inn. From there it turns back down through Draynes Valley (a nice bit of flat!) and back to Pensilva.

Despite the challenge, the race sold out well in advance with 13 Launceston runners taking part, some running their first ever marathon.

As always, there was plenty of support around the course for the runners, particularly at Jamaica Inn where a large crowd turned out to cheer and feed the runners.

Jenny Mills came first in her age group while Jason Jeffrey, Nick Harrison, Julie Barriball, Becky Wise, Wayne Rundle and John Barnes all picked up personal bests.
