BUDE Hockey Club’s women’s teams both enjoyed a fine afternoon in the West Hockey League on Saturday.
The Seasiders’ first team visited Truro Seconds in Trelawney Division Two and despite winning 5-1, were made to work hard throughout.
The defence of Willow Du Plessis, Clare Westaway, Naomi Hatcher and Emily Smart put in a great shift, but when they were breached, Rachel Pomeroy was on hand to make some important saves.
Further forward, Bude enjoyed themselves with goals coming via Caroline Hockridge, Claire Pipe, Charlotte Prime and Izzy Sobey, the latter helping herself to a brace.
Bude, who now enjoy a weekend off, welcome fellow unbeaten side Falmouth Thirds on October 31.
The seconds hosted Truro Thirds at the Sports Centre, but with the city outfit being able to field just seven players, it was played on a half pitch.
Bude keeper Jo Timmins was forced into a fine early double save, and that was even more crucial when the hosts took the lead as a good move involving Indie Clarke, player-of-the-match Eva Clarke and Ellie Midleton set up Lottie Flynn whose shot was saved for Bella Turner to fire in the loose ball.
The North Cornwall side used their large squad to their advantage, but found the Truro goalkeeper in fine form.
Lizzy Tilley made her debut in the home goal for the second half, allowing Timmins to manage the substitutions alongside Jim Francis, and in the second half the Seasiders scored three more times.
First, Tilly Francis pushed the ball out to Indie Clarke whose shot beat the defender on the far post. Truro responded well, but Flynn’s run down the right set up Francis for the third.
Back came Truro who got a deserved goal, but Bella Turner added the fourth late on.
Like the firsts, the ladies have this weekend off before visiting Bodmin on the 31st.
