BUDE Seconds’ very early start to visit Falmouth Fourths was worth it as the Seasiders’ ran out 2-0 winners at Penryn College on Saturday in Women’s Trelawney Division Three of the West Hockey League.
With a 9.30am kick-off, Bude decided to mix things up and started well as a good team move ended with Mia Flynn and Tilly Collins setting up Bella Turner who saw her shot well saved.
That became a recurring theme as chance after chance went up to the break, helped by the midfield trio of player-of-the-match Indie Clarke, Eva Clarke and Naomi Hatcher getting the ball out to Mia Flynn and Lottie Flynn at every opportunity.
The hosts held out until the break which saw the visitors make a few changes as Molly Roper was pushed up front with Mia Flynn going into midfield and Ellie Middleton out to the right.
This worked as again Bude created chance after chance, only to see their efforts go narrowly wide or saved by the home keeper.
Buoyed by Bude’s inability to convert their dominance into goals, Falmouth gradually became more of an attacking force ,but couldn’t get past a defence well-marshalled by Miranda Roper, and fell behind when a long ball out of defence found Tilly Francis whose ball to the far post was swept in by Collins.
The final goal arrived two minutes later and it was again Collins on the scoresheet having taken a pass from Turner.
“Team spokesperson and coach Jo Timmins said: “Despite the very alarm, it was a well-deserved for us with two good goals.”
Bude are back in action on Saturday when they host Truro Thirds.
The first team were handed a home walkover by Newquay Thirds in Trelawney Division Two, but the two sides played a friendly which the Seasiders won 14-2.
Bude visit Truro Seconds on Saturday (2.30pm).
