MEMBERS of Bude Pilot Gig Club went to the Scillies for the World Pilot Gig Championships.

A Ladies' teams and a Men's team went out with the gig, Bedehaven, to compete against the 124 other gig boats from approximately 100 other gig clubs. The excitement was intense!

As a small club, with a policy of being inclusive so that everyone who wants to row may row, we knew we would never reach the dizzy heights of clubs such as Falmouth, Looe and Caradon. Nonetheless we were determined to do Bude proud.

On the Friday night, the Veterans' teams raced the long course from Annet to St. Mary's. Last year Bude Men Vets came 36th out of 64, and the Ladies' Vets were placed 40th out of 52. This year we were delighted to have improved our positions: Men 32nd and Ladies 31st.
