East Cornwall Division One

Pensilva 2

Camelford 2

PENSILVA retained their unbeaten record against a strong Camelford outfit but had to play the game on the Tavistock Community College 3G pitch due to the Recreation Field being waterlogged.

Camelford fielded a strong line up, which included several Peninsula Premier league players including striker Mark Gusterson and Launceston’s Bobby Hopkinson.

Pensilva knew they were going to have to play exceptionally well to get anything from the match but got off to the worst possible start when, in the second minute, Andy Boxall fired home in a crowded penalty area when Pensilva failed to clear a corner.

The home side started to settle and pulled a goal back in the 13th minute when a Karl Gross corner was superbly met at the near post by Lee Hawkins, who headed home.

The second half was a close affair with Pensilva unlucky not to take the lead on the hour mark when a Sam Rogers long throw in was headed against the woodwork by Jake Baker.

Pensilva were made to pay for that miss four minutes later when Boxall netted his second goal of the match.

Camelford were depleted in the 70th minute when referee Shaun Edge sent off Jason Keaton for a dangerous two-footed challenge on Gross.

Pensilva made some attacking changes late in the match and got the goal they deserved five minutes from time when another long throw in from Rogers was flicked on by Dylan Peel for substitute Jacob England to slam a half volley into the net for the equaliser.

Pensilva manager Tony Rogers said: “Looking at the league table, a lot of people will think this was two points dropped by Pensilva but considering the team Camelford fielded we can be proud of gaining a point.”
