JJ Jones Builders Duchy League

YET again there was a reduced programme in the JJ Jones Builders Duchy League, but it didn’t stop some of the Post area teams continuing their bids for promotion.

In the Duchy Premier League, league leaders LC Phoenix weren’t in action although they did lose 2-1 at Torpoint Athletic in midweek, stunting their title challenge once more. They lead second-placed St Minver by four points but have played seven more times.

St Minver’s game at mid-table Lostwithiel was postponed while North Petherwin’s 3-3 draw at home to Pelynt confirmed the visitors’ relegation. Greg Hutchings was at the double for the hosts with Marius Pislabu also on target in a game where they passed up numerous chances.

Callington Town thirds are also set to go down after losing 8-2 at free-scoring St Stephen. Jason Ridgment and Nathan Behennah were the visitors scorers.

Relegated Altarnun missed out on the chance to avoid finishing bottom as their game at St Dennis was also postponed while mid-table Gunnislake were thrashed 8-0 at Sticker.

The eagerly anticipated local derby in Division Two between Tintagel and Boscastle at Butts Field went the way of the visitors who won 5-2. James Bosley and Martin Heal were both at the double with Sam Haddy also on target. Shaun Wickett and Shaun Keeble were the home marksmen.

North Hill joined Boscastle on 31 points in the incredible race for promotion after a 6-1 demolition of relegation-threatened Lifton who need to win at least two of their last three games to stay up. Lifton sit on 11 points with Tintagel on 17. They have two games left.

Sam Smith scored a quadruple for North Hill with Dan Gregory and Danny Moore also on target. Dom Snell grabbed Lifton’s consolation.

North Hill are third, five points behind Queens Rangers, but crucially have three games in-hand. Boscastle have four.

St Minver reserves are now six points clear of Lanivet Inn in the race for the Division Three title after beating near neighbours Delabole United by two goals to one. Will George and Jason Northcott struck in each half before Mike Barrett’s penalty set up a grandstand finish. Lanivet drew 2-2 at Gorran although they do have a game in-hand.

Delabole remain in mid-table with nothing but pride to play for in their final two games.

Southgate’s bid for promotion from Division Five took a massive blow as they drew 2-2 at home to Lostwithiel reserves. Jamie Holden grabbed a brace for Southgate who are third. However, fourth-placed Liskeard Athletic who are on level on points with Jay Webber’s side have six games remaining compared to Southgate’s three.

Week St Mary’s recent good form continued with a 3-1 victory at Boscastle reserves.

Josh Allsop, Steve Short and Alex Harrison were on target with the in-form Darren Hambly replying for Boscastle.

Boscastle can now finish no higher than second bottom while Week St Mary, who are just one place higher, albeit 13 points clear of Boscastle, looking to catch the sides in lower mid-table in their final three games.
