North Devon Football League round-up – Saturday, December 13

MORWENSTOW’S trip to Torridgeside Reserves was just one of two games in the Premier to go ahead, but remain bottom of the table following a 6-0 thrashing.

The Greens, who saw Mark Skelton red-carded, travelled with several missing and just one sub, and are now six points from safety, albeit with 16 games remaining.

They are due to be back in action on January 3 when they host fellow strugglers Hartland who are out of the bottom three on goal difference.

Holsworthy Reserves, who are just a point further ahead than Hartland, saw their trip to Boca Seniors Reserves postponed, meaning the Magpies haven’t taken to the field in the league since October 25.

Bradworthy’s Senior Division title charge continued with a solid 3-0 home success over strugglers Georgeham and Croyde Rovers on Saturday.

The Horniwinks, who now have 11 wins from as many games with a goal difference of 44, were made to work hard but got the job done via Tai Wonnacott and subs Gary Clarke and Shane Shadrick.

Their only realistic challengers – Bideford Reserves – boosted their goal difference by putting 11 past Merton without reply, however they sit two points behind having played a game more.

All the other games in the division were called off, although Shebbear United had the day off anyway.

Four of the six games in Intermediate One got the go ahead, including an 11-goal thriller at Morwenstow.

However, the Greens’ Reserves were edged out 6-5 by visiting Fremington Thirds despite threatening a comeback from 4-2 down at the break as sub Phil Horton helped himself to a hat-trick after Dan Hunt and Paul Jenkin netted.

Elsewhere in the division there were goals galore as South Molton Reserves thrashed Northam Lions 12-1, while Kingsley Wizards knocked in nine at High Bickington who scored three themselves.

Equalizers and Hartland Reserves played out a 1-1 draw.

The league now takes a break until Saturday, January 3 with a near full programme scheduled across the three divisions.
