WERRINGTON’S Tom Dinnis received a rather special award at the club’s latest committee meeting last week.
Dinnis, 21, was announced as the winner of The Clive Osborne Trophy, which is for ‘the most promising young bowler’ in the county, at the Cornwall Cricket AGM at the end of January.
Dinnis, who has also made a handful of appearances for Somerset 2XI, was presented with the trophy and a certificate by club patron Mike Williams as well as being congratulated on his achievements.
Werrington chairman Richard Jenkin was full of praise for the former Menheniot-Looe and Callington youngster.
He said: “This was a tremendous honour for Tom and the club. Tom had a fantastic season last year playing a major part in Werrington winning the Premier League and he also became a frontline bowler for Cornwall and took several wickets in the defeat of Devon played at Werrington last July.”
2018 was Dinnis’ best year to date. In all competitions for Cornwall, the opening bowler took 35 wickets, including five-wicket hauls against Herefordshire, Devon and Wales Minor Counties, while playing predominantly on an excellent pitch for batting at Werrington, he managed 28 wickets in all competitions at an excellent economy of 3.84.
He saved one of his best performances for last as he took 4-33 in their final day victory over Falmouth, which gave them their fourth Premier League title in seven years.
