THE Cornwall Cricket League has announced its fixtures for the 2017 season.
Last summer saw a number of the Post area teams enjoy promotion while other clubs suffered slightly less enjoyable campaigns.
The season runs from Saturday, April 22 to Saturday, September 9, although the ECB Cornwall Premier League finishes a week earlier due to a round of fixtures being played on the August bank holiday weekend.
The Premier League doesn’t get underway until May 20 as the top-flight clubs take part in a 40/40 Cup competition over the opening weeks.
Werrington start their 40/40 Cup campaign with a trip to Wheal Eliza to take on St Austell on April 22 before welcoming Truro on the following Saturday.
Matt Robins and Thomas Hughes will get an early chance to show Grampound Road what they’ll be missing out on when they clash opening day of the ECB Cornwall Premier League, while they finish the season where they started, with a trip to St Austell.
Werrington seconds will aim for survival once more after a brilliant debut campaign in County One saw them avoid the drop with a couple of games to spare.
Mark Hodgson’s men will be hopeful of getting off to a quick start in their first two home games as they host Troon and Lanhydrock who were both promoted last summer.
Troon head to Ladycross on Saturday, April 22 before they make a long trip to Rosudgeon.
Promising all-rounder Luke Brenton has already joined from Luckett and will get his first taste of competitive action as a Callington player when they host Roche on the opening day.
They then head to Ludgvan and Rosudgeon on successive Saturdays before welcoming relegated Newquay to Moores Park.
Last year’s runners-up St Minver start their bid for promotion with a home game against Ludgvan.
The North Cornwall club head to Camborne on the second weekend before making the relatively short trip to relegated Newquay.
In Division Two East, Launceston – under the captaincy of Robert Mutch – start their bid to get back into County One with a tricky clash against St Austell seconds at Lawhitton before facing Callington seconds at Moores Park.
Callington’s opening encounter sees them go to St Blazey.
Luckett, who had an average year by their standards in 2016, will hope for a repeat of last year’s opening day victory over Menheniot Looe when they clash at the Chapel Field.
Tintagel’s first team made an immediate return to Division Three last summer as they romped to the Division Four East title without losing a game. Gorran seconds, who were promoted with them, visit Butts Field on the opening day before their first away game takes them to St Neot.
Werrington thirds start at promoted Roche seconds before welcoming Liskeard, who host Luckett seconds at Lux Park in their curtain raiser.
After two successive promotions, Bude seconds begin life in Division Four East at their picturesque Crooklets ground by welcoming St Erme seconds. For the first time in seven years there’ll be a derby to look forward to against old rivals and promotion favourites Holsworthy.
The Stanhope Park club open their campaign at home to Grampound Road thirds who were only awarded promotion because of Callington’s concessions last term.
The derby matches between Bude and Holsworthy will be played on Saturday, May 27 before the return fixture at Crooklets on the last day.
Division Five East champions Delabole welcome St Blazey seconds in a winnable opening day clash while local rivals St Minver seconds start at Newquay thirds while Launceston seconds go to their Menheniot Looe counterparts.
With Division Five being split into five sections, Tintagel seconds will be the only Post area team in the newly formed Division Five Gannel.
Tintagel travel to St Neot seconds before hosting Pencarrow in their first home game.
New boys Buckland Monochorum, who have spent the last few seasons playing in the Devon League, make the trip to Launceston thirds in Division Five Tamar.
Relegated Callington thirds make the trip to Duloe to take on Menheniot Looe thirds while Werrington fourths have a tough opener at home to St Stephens from Saltash.
Milton Abbot welcome Saltash seconds while Gunnislake, who finished in mid-table in Division Six last year, head to Tideford who will also fancy their chances of a good season. South Petherwin seconds have a bye before travelling to St Stephens.
