Bude North Cornwall Cricket Club are looking forward to the forthcoming 2019 season. Last season was highly successful for the club across the board, not only did the first team have their most successful season for a number of years narrowly missing out on promotion to Division 1 by the smallest of margins. It also saw the promotion of the second XI into Division 3 and perhaps most importantly saw a huge development in the number of junior players at the club, something they are desperate to see continue.

This is a fantastic position for the club to be in with the first team in the second division and looking to build on last year’s success and once again be involved in the business end of the table come the end of the season. This could prove to be more of a challenge this season after losing two regular opening bowlers over the winter period, however Mark McManus (Macca), the first team captain said: “We are more than up for the challenge and looking forward to an enjoyable and successful season.”

Macca, who has been a regular face at the club for a number of years continued: “As well as players leaving, the winter also saw a highly successful series of net sessions which have brought with them some new and returning members which is always extremely exciting. As a club we pride ourselves on providing a happy and welcoming atmosphere and welcome new members of all abilities with open arms.”

Whilst on-field performance is a large part of the success of Bude Cricket Club the most important part of any community club should be the social side and the enjoyment of being part of one big team and that is certainly the emphasis at Bude CC. Macca said: “We wish all of our new members the best of luck for a successful first season with us and to our returning members, it’s great to have you back!”

The second XI are hoping to consolidate their fantastic performance of last season with a solid first year in Division 3 whilst at the same time providing many of the new members and their growing youth section as much game time as possible. Macca added: “This will prove to be a fine balancing act that I know each and every player is looking forward to

“Once again the club is hugely thankful to all of the wonderful local businesses out there that have provided sponsorship to help see us through the season. Running a cricket club is an expensive business and wouldn’t be possible without this generosity, so a massive thank you to all that have dug deep with a particular mention to our main sponsors Bond Oxborough Phillips, Plumbase, Adventure International and P M Building Contractors who allow this fantastic cricket club to continue providing such a fabulous experience for all members and visitors alike.”
