THE first weekend of May saw Dunheved's ladies come away as Group Two winners in the National Fours.
On the first ladies county weekend of the season, Claire Fishleigh, Helen Leeder, Lindsey Worth and Karen Nicoll played three matches over the two days.
The sun was shining for their opener on May 3, and teams travelled to Stratton and Wadebridge bowling clubs to begin the knockout competition.
Dunheved, playing at Stratton, were drawn to play a team from Liskeard in the first round. They managed to develop a comfortable lead over the 18 ends, which saw them through to the next stage.
After a break for lunch, the ladies headed back out to play the green final.
The opposition was fellow Launceston club, Kensey Vale. It was a very closely-fought match all the way through, with Dunheved managing to pull away towards the end, and ran out winners 14-9.
The next day saw Dunheved down the A30 to Bodmin to take part in the final.
The day kicked off with the green final from Wadebridge, which saw two strong teams from Camelford and Bodmin battle it out to secure a place in the Group final.
It was another close match, but there could only be one winner, and Bodmin earned their place to join Dunheved in the decider.
After 16 ends, Dunheved managed to maintain their winning streak, and with a score of 21-9, the match was over. Both finalists will travel down to St Stephen on July 20 to play in the county quarter-finals.
They will be joined by six other teams from across the Duchy (winners and runners up from the other three groups), and the top two will represent the county at the Leamington nationals in August.
