Upper Tamar Lake Sailing Club race report – Sunday, October 26

CUP ELEVEN

FIRST over the start line for Sunday’s morning race was Nathan Pollard’s Aero 5, followed by Brian Pollard and Tash Routley (Bosun), Liam Routley (Laser Radial) and Harriet Cox (Laser 4.7)

The winds were quite powerful and gusty north-westerlies, ensuring all competitors had to be on song.

Nathan held his lead up to Middle and from then on. He was followed by the Pollard/Routley Bosun, Liam Routley’s Laser Radial and Harriet Cox’s 4.7. Liam managed to get past Brian/Tash before West.

On the second lap, Liam Routley distanced himself from the Pollard/Routley Bosun while Cox caught them up but could not quite overtake before the start of the third lap. The handicaps gave the Bosun and the Laser Radial exactly equal times, but not enough to overturn Nathan’s victory.

Results: 1 Nathan Pollard (Aero 5); 2 Brian Pollard and Natasha Routley (Bosun) and Liam Routley (Laser Radial); 4 Harriet Cox (Laser 4.7).

FROSTBITE FIVE

THE fleet was very close together at the start line. Nathan Pollard’s Aero 5 was only just ahead of Liam Routley’s Laser Radial with Brian Pollard/Tash Routley very close behind and Harriet Cox following on.

Nathan was first around Pinkie followed by Brian and Tash, Liam and Harriet.

Liam then overtook the Bosun before West and Harriet managed a quick recovery after a capsize. The course had been changed for the second race introducing two gybes at West and Inlet, but some found granny tacks were the safer way to go.

Nathan once again took the victory.

Results: 1 Nathan Pollard (Aero 5); 2 Brian Pollard and Tash Routley (Bosun); 3 Liam Routley (Laser Radial); 4 Harriet Cox (Laser 4.7)

Grateful thanks were offered to Bob Sampson for running the races.
