WHILE on holiday in Majorca, an eight-year-old Launceston girl helped to save a six-year-old from drowning while they were swimming together in a hotel pool.

Kaitlyn Jennings, who celebrated her ninth birthday two days after the incident, had made friends with six-year-old Lucy at the hotel.

Having started diving two years before with her dad, Kaitlyn was a strong swimmer, but Lucy was not so confident, and took to the pool with an inflatable ring.

While in the deep end of the pool, Kaitlyn said she had "turned away for a moment" and when she looked back Lucy's ring had slipped away and she saw her friend struggling.
