Jesse Norman is doubtless a fine advocate for Herefordshire as other writers have spelt out, however I cannot vote for him. He may well have done a first class job for the 4000 individuals who approached him for help with their concerns, however we are not primarily electing a sort of "glorified social worker". We are electing a government to run the country.
The Tories may be judged on their record. While avoiding upsetting their natural supporters, the upwardly mobile, the elderly, etc, they have declared war on a whole section of our society to push through their austerity programme. I refer to the sick, the mentally disabled, the physically disabled....indeed anyone at the bottom of the income heap. We are told they are a legitimate target because they are "scroungers and shirkers", only too happy to lie about all day taking from us hard working folk and giving nothing back.
Of course, there are people scamming the system, but they are a tiny minority (if you don't believe me, just check out the DWP's own figures). But rather than weed out the true culprits, the government would rather just "shoot them all". Their approach is the same as dealing with terrorists who are holding a group of hostages: they would drop a bomb on all of them, because it's the only way to be sure the terrorists don't get away with it.
