A SHARK Cage situated at Crooklets beach in Bude has collected tonnes of harmful waste, preventing it from entering the sea and affecting marine life.

The cage, donated by shark expert Richard Pierce, was placed at the edge of Crooklets beach this summer, in an aim to collect waste and rubbish that would be harmful to the environment if it were to go to landfill.

Recently, local environmental charity A Greener Bude announced that the cage had been filled to the brim with all sorts of waste — from polysterene bodyboards, ghost fishing nets, rope, fishing crates, plastic bottles and old buoys.

The rubbish has since been collected by Coastal Recycling, to be recycled responsibly.
