POLICE investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the A39, in which two people died, are appealing for witnesses.

Emergency services were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a van and a motorbike, on the A39 at Collamoor Head, near Wainhouse Corner, at around 11am on Monday, April 18.

The motorbike rider, a man in his 60s, and his pillion passenger, a woman in her 60s, both from the Truro area, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

A man in his 50s, from the Camelford area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol. He remains in custody.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “The road was closed for more than eight hours and we thank the public for their patience whilst the investigation took place at the scene.”

Officers from the Roads Policing Team and collision investigators attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

UPDATE 21/04/22:

A man has since been charged in connection and is due to appear before Truro Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 2.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson confirmed: “Police have charged a man in connection to an incident in Bude on Monday 18 April. Glyn Arthur Thomas, 58, of Collamoor Head, Camelford, has been charged with two charges of causing death by driving without due care and attention whilst unfit through drink.”
