THE pigs of Wenfork Farm, Treburley, have picked up a collection of rosettes on the first day of the Royal Cornwall Show.
Julian, Adam and Emma Collings won three champion rosettes overall on the first day, amongst their other achievements at the show.
A total of 177 entries have competed for the honours within the pig section over the three days of the show, which marks a slight dip in numbers compared to last year’s third highest entry record.
However, this year, entries in the Large White, Middle White, Welsh and other pure breed and young handler classes have increased.
The Collings were showing over the entirety of the show with Julian’s Liskeard General herd.
Their Champion British Male boar was born in October 2015, and hasn’t started working or breeding yet as he is still too young for a sow. However, he will be put to work when he turns 10 months old.
Adam said of the particular boar: “We chose him because of confirmation really. We chose him on his breed, specification, meeting the criteria, and how he shows himself off. It’s all about how he produces himself.”
Wenfork Farm will be taking their pigs to the Royal Welsh Show, and potentially the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate, hoping to have as much success there as they had at the Royal Cornwall Show.
