SUMMER trains from Okehampton to Exeter are set to resume this Sunday, having been cancelled on June 4.

It is a re-timed schedule for this Sunday, June 11, with times generally similar to the usual service, but journeys will take approximately 15 minutes longer. The schedule will start and terminate at Exeter St Davids instead of Exeter Central.

The first service from Okehampton will be at 10.20am, then 12.22, 15.45 and 17.59.

Trains will run to Okehampton leaving St Davids at 9.08am, then 11.22, 14.35 and 16.59.

Great Western Railway agreed with Devon County Council to cancel the June 4 service after the railway said it was ‘informed at short notice’ that a temporary speed restriction was put in place over the line between Yeoford Junction and Okehampton — 25mph instead of the usual 55mph.

A spokesperson for GWR said the service would have been ‘severely impacted’ to the extent that it would not have been able to ‘deliver a reliable service within available resources’.

The spokesperson added: “To compensate for the lack of operation we have offered Devon County Council an extra Sunday in September.”
