Councillor Ken James has donated £500 from his Councillor Community Grant allowance to the Bude Canal Trust Partnership.
The money will be used to help towards the continued work to preserve the canal, the aqueduct, footpaths and wildlife habitat.
Work on the canal, which runs from Bude to Holsworthy, started almost 200 years ago and is now promoted by the Canal Trust.
The partnership includes The Bude Canal Trust, South West Lakes Trust, Devon County Council, Torridge District Council, Cornwall County Council as well as local parish councils, conservation and wildlife trusts.
Cllr James said: "It's a project dear to mine and many other local people's hearts, so I am very pleased to be able to help out in this way. The section we are working on at the moment runs from Pancrasweek to Tamar Lakes and is the longest single footpath, five miles, in Devon."
