THREE men from London have been arrested in connection with two burglaries in the Plas Derwen area of Abergavenny.

The suspects, aged 24, 27 and 28, were rounded up at their home addresses in the Camden area of the capital last week.

It's understood they had been doing sub-contract building work in Abergavenny at the time of the raids.

Each was detained on suspicion of burglary before being released on bail pending further inquiries.

It now brings to five the total number of arrests police have made in relation to the break-ins. One was in Plas Derwen View on March 23 and the other in Plas Derwen Way just 24 hours later.

Two people from Abergavenny have already been arrested in connection with the jewellery raids - a 45-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man.

Both are local to Abergavenny. They remain on police bail.

Inspector Huw Jones, based at Abergavenny, said, "Good, solid police work led to the arrests. We are pleased with the outcome."

He added, "We committed a lot of resources and manpower to this inquiry. Diligent efforts were made. We now await the result of further inquiries."

* Four people were arrested after an attempted break-in at the Grofield pub in Abergavenny on April 11.

All four have since been questioned and charged with burglary. They were remanded on police bail to appear in court at a later date.
