On Wednesday, the club members met at Upton Castle, and Pru and granddaughter Tilly took the group around the garden. First they looked at the three oldest towers of the castle, and then to saw the white peacock and 13th century chapel.
Pru said that the Time Team had been there recently and discovered Norman roof tiles and stained glass, and dated it by means of a grave, to the 11th century.
The group then went into the vegetable, herb and rose gardens, past the wildflower field, and in the 1927 garden Pru named many plants and trees forthe group.
The afternoon ended on the castle's private lawn with a magnificent tea provided by Jan and glasses of elderberry and ginger beer.
A big thank you was given to Pru and Tilly for the tour of the garden and for letting the group use their lawn. Another thank you was said to Jan for all her hard work in organising both the afternoon and the tea.
Ann asked that all members come to Augustus Place Hall at 2 pm on Wednesday, June 10, to hear the arrangements for various future outings. A game of 'Aeroplanes' will also take place.
