CORNWALL Fire and Rescue Service is urging people to ensure all appliances are switched off when they leave their property and check smoke alarms are working, following a recent incident in Bude.

Two crews from Bude Fire Station and one from Holsworthy attended a call to a property and found an electric cooker had been left switched on. The crews made the property safe and vented. There were four pets there, none of which were injured.

The occupier had gone out, but the smoke alarm alerted a neighbour, who called the fire service.
