MORE than 300 students from Cornwall College Saltash were honoured for their outstanding academic achievements last week when staff from the college hosted a special prize-giving ceremony.

Among the winners was Launceston girl Jessica Clemence, 20, a Childcare CACHE Diploma Level 3 student. Jessica won the Student of the Year award for the second year running for her outstanding commitment and exceptional achievement and determination.

Jessica said: I'm very shocked to have won the award as I won it last year but I'm very happy to have won it again because it makes me realize that my hard work is appreciated.

Prestigious awards were presented by Saltash Town Mayor, Cllr Sue Hooper, for Student of the Year as well as individual departmental prizes, to those students who have demonstrated exceptional hard work and success.

Pat Lloyd, Head of Student Services, explained: This is an important event for the college as we recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication that all of our students have put into their studies throughout the year.

Some students have really demonstrated their dedication and determination to overcome huge milestones to complete their course and we are so very proud of their high achievements. Seeing everyone all together is a wonderful experience, one in which we look forward to each year.

The presentation evening took place at St Mellion International Resort. Parents, friends and college councillors were present at the event.

Those students that attended represented 11 different course areas from the college: Access to Higher Education, Art and Design, Beauty Therapy, Business and Professional, Childcare, Computing and IT, Construction Trades, Hairdressing, Health and Social Care, Skills for Life and Travel and Tourism.

Following the presentation, students were able to enjoy a disco and buffet organised by the college and St Mellion.

Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: We feel it is important to honour our students on their academic achievements, they have all done so well and are an absolute credit to the college. Seeing them celebrating their success is what makes our work so rewarding.
