WHILE on her way to work on Wednesday, December 20, Sue West, the Post’s advertising rep for the Launceston area, was stopped by a stranger and handed a present.
The lady who handed over the beautifully wrapped gift didn’t stop to speak, just simply said: “This is for you.”
Seeing the shock on Sue’s face, the lady added: “Read the card.”
In shock, Sue said thank you and took the present into work to tell her colleagues about her strange start to the morning.
Once she had time to take it all in she read the accompanying card, which said: “Happy Christmas to you!! You are receiving this Christmas present in memory of a very dear lady. Lynne was very generous, welcoming and kind. She died two years ago now, and I miss her terribly.
“So each year, I buy her a gift but pass it on to someone I think is just as nice. You!
“Merry Christmas!! X JS X.”
Upon opening the gift Sue found it to be a lovely bath gift set from Superdrug. She said JS’ random act of kindness was lovely and she was ‘shocked’ to have received the surprise package. Sue said: “I was absolutely shocked, I really didn’t know what to say. It was very unexpected — least thing you expect when you are just on your way to work.
“When the lady passed it to me I thought she was going to say it was for someone else, then when she said it was for me, read the card, I didn’t quite know what to say.
“What a lovely thing to do, she wanted to share the memory of her friend through someone else.”
