MEMBERS of Launceston’s Popchoir group found themselves a new fan when they performed at a supermarket on Saturday — they were watched by musician, vicar and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant the Rev Richard Coles.
Popchoir was at Tesco singing to shoppers, and the choir’s director Sarah Bradley, having had her back to Mr Coles of The Communards fame while the Popchoir performed a song, got members to run outside afterwards to ask him to pose for a photo.
She said: “How exciting to get a photo. He had been watching and filming us singing and donated to the charity bucket before leaving the shop.
“After the song the choir told me, as I obviously had my back to him, I got a few of them to run after him so we could get a picture! The London Choir had posted a picture on our Facebook page of them with Peter Andre the day before. They had been doing a charity event with him. So it was perfect that we could share our own celeb moment!
“He was very gracious and said he enjoyed our singing and was more than happy to pose with us. I think he was on holiday in North Cornwall.
“His later reply to my tweet said he ‘loved seeing and hearing us’.
“It was a very exciting for us, especially me, as I am a huge Strictly fan!”
Mr Coles was a contestant for the 15th and current series of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. He was paired with professional dancer Dianne Buswell and they were the second couple to be eliminated.
Launceston Popchoir’s term begins on January 9, 7.30pm at the town hall — all are welcome to go along for a taster session. For more information visit www.popchoir.com
