ALTON Town Council has welcomed an outline application by East Hampshire District Council for a replacement sports centre at Chawton Park Road.

Estimated to cost £25m, the proposal is to construct a new sports centre, of up to 8,500 square metres external floor area, on the existing synthetic sports pitch area.

The centre accommodate a six-lane swimming pool, with separate learning pool, a sports hall and viewing area, play spaces, dry and wet changing, toilets, cafe, reception area, meeting rooms and support facilities.
