THE co-owner of Taylor’s Moorview Service Station, Launceston, and her sister recently exceeded their £3,000 fundraising target for the charity ‘Sense’.

Becky Wise co-owns and runs the Launceston service station with her husband Matt Wise, and her sister Vicky Holt works for Specsavers in Launceston.

The sisters have held a number of events to fundraise for the charity Sense, a national charity that supports people who are deafblind, have sensory impairments or complex needs, to enjoy a more independent life.

Becky explained that the money they raised will go towards advancing medical science for the deafblind, for example implanted hearing devices, and will also fund support for parents in placing children into mainstream schools.

The sisters’ initial target was £1,500 each for charity placements. They have managed to exceed their target, raising £3,200.

Becky said: “We raised £3,200 for Sense from various events throughout the year. There was high tea, with donations from No.8, Roddas, Cornish Tea Company and Kensey Foods.

“We also had a bingo, with donations from Matt Luxton Blast fitness, and a wine and wisdom with donations from Jo Downs Glass.

“We had massive support from locals, friends and family.”

One of the fundraising events Becky undertook was the marathon. Becky said it had been an ‘amazing experience’. She added: “It was my first marathon and I finished in a time of 4hours 44 minutes.

“We had support from Launceston Road Runners and Matt Luxton for training schedules, nutrition etc and Launceston sports also donated prizes for the wine and wisdom and I went there for regular physio for general leg maintenance!

“Launceston has an incredible, close business community and we are very lucky — also thanks to Katie from the Post for sorting all the ads for me.”
