A SPECIAL presentation was made during the Holsworthy & Stratton Agricultural Show’s annual meeting when its long-standing secretary stepped down.
After six splendid years, Holsworthy & Stratton Show’s secretary Rosie Ireland is handing over the reigns to Ruth Shepherd, granddaughter of former show president Arthur Allin.
On the night the committee members have expressed their thanks to her for all her hard work and commitment.
Rosie said: “It was a pleasure and an honour to be the Holsworthy & Stratton Show secretary for six years. I made some super friends and have some amazing memories.
“The World Record Welly Wang ranks as one of my most special memories from my time with the show.
“I would like to thank the full committee for always being so supportive. Also, all the traders, exhibitors and suppliers, it takes everyone’s support and goodwill to make the show successful and in Holsworthy we always had that in bucketfuls.
“I am incredibly glad Ruth has taken on the position. She has excellent local knowledge, drive and enthusiasm. I am sure the show will go from strength to strength under her management.”
Ruth will now take the lead and is excited about her new role. She is well known in the farming community, with her sons Thomas and Samuel Nancekivell being familiar faces in the show ring. She said: “I’m really excited and looking forward to taking on the roll of show secretary. I have a long history with the show and many connections with the farming community, one being my grandad Arthur Allin president in 1982 , I remember the day fondly.
“I am a farmer’s daughter and have always lived in the area. I have spent much of my working life within agricultural, and have three amazing boys, Thomas, Harry and Samuel. Thomas and Samuel (Nancekivell) are well known within the show community, bringing back many cups and rosettes with the showing of their sheep.
“I am so grateful to Rosie for showing me the ropes and guiding me through the next few months in preparation for the show.”
The committee are optimistic about holding the show this year on Thursday, August 25, and planning is under way.
Ruth added: “I am very much looking forward to working with the committee, traders, exhibitors, and all those that are involved in the show. Bring on the Thursday, August 25 — it’s going to be a great day.”
