SHOULD St Teath and Delabole each be represented by their own parish council?
The review provides an opportunity to make changes to governance arrangements at parish level to ensure they are working as effectively as possible and reflect the identity and interest of local communities.
To facilitate this, the review has the power to make changes to parish areas, consider merges of parishes, or create a new parish out of part of an existing parish.
Recommendations for change will be considered at an extraordinary session of the Full Council at New County Hall in December and evidence of local support for any changes will be a key consideration.
Cllr Fairman would like to see both villages represented by separate councils.
He said: “Since first being elected to represent St Teath and Delabole in 2016 I have attended almost all parish council meetings, and as a former parish council chairman myself, I have long held the view that both villages would benefit if there were an independent council for each village.
“Whilst Cornwall Council have already held a number of engagement events around the county, the closest meeting to the parish was held in St Issey and was dominated by discussion around Wadebridge Town Council. I feel strongly that the residents of St Teath and Delabole should have dedicated local events to explore the proposal and give their views.
“To this end I have organised two events in early November — one in each village — and I would encourage all residents to drop in for a short while so that I might answer any questions, but more importantly, to register their individual views to submit to the process.”
The two events will be held on successive Saturdays starting this weekend with residents from both villages encouraged to come to either event.
They are as follows:
November 2 (2pm to 6pm) at St Johns Church, Delabole ; November 9 (2pm to 6pm) at St Teath Community Centre.
