STUDENTS at Shebbear College who have been enjoying the benefits of their new Sixth Form Centre have been rewarded with another very successful year at A Level with almost 60% of all results being graded A* to B.
The school’s very strong reputation for Maths was reinforced with ten out of eleven grades from A* to B.
Head boy Ross Bennett ended his school career by securing his place to study Chemistry at Bath whilst head girl Abbie Selwyn has decided to follow a lifelong ambition to train as a supernanny at the prestigious Norland College.
Among other notable successes were Angus Crookes who will study Physics at Exeter and Bella Westlake who will read English at Keble College, Oxford.
International student Louis Cheuk achieved two A*s and two As and will study Management at Warwick whilst Sparkle Ip has won a scholarship to study cello at the Royal Welsh School of Music.
Max Warren and Ella Thomas have deferred their university plans and are taking up places as gap students in two of the top schools in Australia, Canberra Grammar and Geelong.
A full list of student destinations will be published on the school’s website.
Headmaster Simon Weale was delighted with the results. He said: “The most important thing is that our students leave us as self-assured, confident and resilient young people with the ability to learn and to live happy and productive lives.
“The class of 2016 more than lives up to that. I am pleased that they were also the first cohort to benefit from our new purpose built Sixth Form Centre.
“Our Sixth Form programme is demanding and we only offer A Level courses which provide the rigorous preparation needed by all of our students for university and the world of work.
“It is just as important for us that the student who doesn’t find A Level study easy ends up with three decent passes at A Level as it is for our high fliers to get A* and A grades. In this respect the value added to these students this year is outstanding.”
