THE restoration of the steps leading down to Tintagel Castle Beach has been completed in time for the Easter holidays.

Popular for Merlin's Cave, the beach is a big draw for tourists to Tintagel Castle. During the storms in February, all access to the beach was destroyed by the waves and falling boulders.

Matt Ward, English Heritage site supervisor at Tintagel Castle, said: "Because it was winter, there have not been many tourists, but it was important to have the beach open in time for the Easter school holidays, so we are pleased we made it.

"These storms were the worst in 200 years, and it has changed the face of the beach. We have had geotechnic engineers surveying the area and it is safe, although some features, such as great chunks of the wall, have been destroyed."
