THERE have been calls for part of a highway in Launceston to be tidied up before the start of the Gorsedh celebrations later this year.

Launceston is hosting the 2017 Gorsedh Kernow Esedhvos Festival of Cornish Culture and Bardic ceremony.

At last week’s Launceston Town Council meeting, Cllr Brian Keighley raised concerns about a stretch of roadway that the bards would use that goes from the Castle to Eagle House.

He said: “It’s very rough and needs to be addressed. It would be nice to have it tidied up.”

The first part of the Gorsedh is the Proclamation Day, which will be held in the Town Square on Saturday, April 22.

The festival itself will begin on Wednesday, August 30, when the Grand Bard’s chair is brought to the town.

Other events will include a book fair, the Gorsedh conference, a ceilidh and a bardic tea. Arrangements will be undertaken by a local organising committee. The Gorsedh Kernow flag will be flown from the town hall for the Proclamation Day and throughout the Esedhvos Festival.
